Review: Discovering my ancestry with Living DNA
Have you ever wondered where you come from? I have always had an intrinsic interest in my family history. I’ve spent hours, days even, scouring genealogy sites. I’ve put together a huge family tree and learnt a lot about my ancestry. Whilst in parts I’ve got back as far as the 13th century, I still have a thirst for knowledge. I particularly want to know more about my mum’s side of the family, as common surnames have made tracing back very difficult. DNA ancestry tests have really intrigued me since I first found out about them. There are quite a few DNA ancestry test websites around now and they’re fairly afforable. Everything I’ve found out so far shows my ancestors in England, Wales, Ireland and Germany. As such, I’ve been curious to find out whether my ancestors have always remained in this part of the globe, as they have been for the last few hundred years. Thanks to Living DNA, I now have some answers!
A beautiful autumnal day apple picking with a toddler
Now that we’re well into October, it won’t be long before the barrage of pumpkin patch photos start flooding social media. Our local pick your own opens tomorrow and I can’t wait. We’ll likely be making a visit, just as we did last year and the year before. However, last weekend we went out to pick something much sweeter! Autumn loves apples, so we thought we’d take her to an orchard to see where they’re grown and pick some too.

Preparing a short break to Norfolk
I haven’t been on holiday to Norfolk since I was 9. However, it’s a holiday I have very fond memories of. I particularly enjoyed Great Yarmouth and sailing a boat along the Norfolk Broads. We recently took Autumn camping in Cornwall, but I’d actually planned to camp closer to home in somewhere like Norfolk or Dorset first! Norfolk is about 2 hours from us in Kent, perfect for a short break. I’ve been chatting to the blogging community about what there is to do in Norfolk if you, like me, are considering having a holiday there.
I’m bringing turkey back: A weekend at BlogOn Toys
Almost three weeks ago, I went to BlogOn blogging conference in Manchester for the third time. BlogOn Xmas was my first conference in September last year and I loved every moment of it. I wore a turkey hat and by popular demand, I was asked to bring it back again this year! My experience at BlogOn X in May wasn’t as as it should have been as I felt unwell and missed a lot of it, but I was back on form for BlogOn Toys this September and raring to go! I just didn’t bargain on a visit to A&E at Salford Royal Hospital until the early hours of the morning.
Celebrating Autumn’s 2nd Birthday
The weekend before last, Autumn turned 2 years old! We weren’t sure what to do for her birthday, but wanted to make it a special day to remember. We considered taking her to a zoo as she loves animals, but as we’ve been to Howletts, Drusillas Park and Folly Farm over the last few months we felt that we’d exhausted that avenue for a while! Pooling together ideas, we thought about what Autumn likes best: Family and friends, running around, Peppa Pig and soft play!
A victim of period-based taboo?
On Saturday night, I was scrolling on Facebook when I saw a headline that angered me: “Girl sat in blood-soaked clothes after teacher said she couldn’t go to the toilet”. This story on Metro evoked powerful memories of being a teenage girl. I’d worry, thinking “What do I do if my period starts at school?” Once I’d started menstruating, I worried about being allowed to leave class should I need to, or worse, leaking.
Dressing for the occasion with Roco Clothing
Finding an outfit for an occasion is often quite a task, even when it comes to children’s clothing. I spend ages trawling the internet and the local shopping centre until I find the right outfit. Somewhere you may not heard of before is Roco Clothing. They have beautiful clothes for girls and boys which are perfect for any event on your social calendar. We were recently sent a gorgeous dress and shoes for Autumn – here’s what we thought:
