UK lockdown in our house: Week 1

Wow, what a week it has been. From the way things were going in other countries and our own rising statistics, I thought that the UK would go into lockdown. However, things seemed to progress very quickly over a matter of days and it still came as a bit of a shock to the system. I don’t know about you, but for me this all feels very surreal still. Like a bad dream I just haven’t managed to wake up from yet. Sometimes I’m pretty chilled and just focused on what I’m doing. Then at other points, the stark reality of coronavirus and COVID-19 hits me in a bad way.

Lockdown Nursery Homeschool: Week 1

Well, we all survived our first week of no school! Along with others around the UK, I took my first steps into homeschooling my child on Monday. Although my daughter is only 3, I know that she needs the structure and stimulation that nursery provides her. So as soon as I found out the schools were closing due to coronavirus (COVID-19), I set about finding resources and lesson planning. Thankfully, my mum is an experienced early years TA and one of my best friends is a primary teacher. As such, I was well equipped, although lots of people have been helpfully posting many of these sites on social media! We have also been taking advantage of the various companies doing Facebook lives during lockdown. Autumn actually really enjoyed homeschool (which she named Apple Class) – and so did I!

Autumn’s first month of nursery

I can hardly believe that Autumn has been going to nursery for just shy of a month already! In some ways it seems longer, perhaps because we settled into the routine quite quickly? On the days I’m not working, it’s great for getting things done. I was also pleasantly surprised to find that the school run wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. So, how is Autumn getting on?

My thoughts on Autumn starting nursery

Time has seemed to elapse in a really strange way since becoming a parent. Sure, those early days (or rather nights) often felt so long, but the years have gone so quickly. I can’t believe I have a 3 year old! It seems almost impossible that that little bundle has turned into a proper person who talks and has her own little personality in such a short period of time. Now, next week my baby is off to nursery and I have a whole mixture of emotions!
