10 home improvements to improve your quality of life

Sponsored Post¦ We spend a lot of time at home and that’s never been truer than over the last two years! Therefore, it’s important that our home is somewhere we feel relaxed, cosy, comfortable and content. There are always home improvements you can make, whether big or small, to improve your quality of life. Here are ten ways you can make your home a place you enjoy being.

Buy a new boiler

I’ve lived with an unreliable boiler before. It’s no fun freezing on winter days that it decides to misbehave, or when you’re in a rush to go out and there’s no hot water for a shower. Having a boiler you can rely on makes such a difference, so although they are expensive they are worth replacing if they’re not working as they should. Make sure you choose a good boiler installation company like Bbright who offer fuss-free next-day installation to make the process straightforward and get advice on what kind of boiler will work best for your home.

Get a unvented hot water cylinder

I’m speaking from experience on this one too. When we moved into our house, the pressure in the taps was awful. It took ages to fill the kettle and the shower just dribbled. Then we got an unvented hot water cylinder and it changed our lives. They increase the water pressure across the system and keep water hotter for longer. In most cases, it also removes the need for a shower pump. (This is a pump which goes above a (non power) shower to give the water coming out of it oomph). They can be noisy and do fail after a certain period of time.

Go slow closing

If there’s a slow closing option for something, go for it! It’s annoying when kitchen cabinets and drawers don’t have slow close. Meanwhile, toilet seats that don’t have it make you jump out of your skin when you accidentally drop them. I’ve actually accidentally woken one of my children up in the middle of the night by doing it. I quickly invested in a slow close one so it didn’t happen again!

Get better lighting

Lighting can really change the whole ambience of a room and affect your mood! Some simple changes can make a world of difference. For instance, it is so much easier to see what you’re doing when you have under cabinet lights in the kitchen. Good porch lights are also a must. They’ll make your home feel much more welcoming and you won’t have to fumble in the dark for your house keys!

Invest in a rewire

Yes, having your house rewired is an expensive and messy job. However, there are also a lot of merits. Been annoyed that there’s no light switch next to your bed or that there aren’t enough plug sockets in your kitchen? Well, now you can have sockets and switches wherever you want them! Plus, you’ll have the peace of mind that all the electrics in your house are safe.

Upgrade to mesh WiFi

Isn’t it so annoying when the WiFi drops out in certain areas of your home? Having mesh WiFi will improve the coverage across your home so you no longer have to get mad at videos buffering and having to switch to mobile data.

Get a timer extractor fan

Extractor fans are a must have in every bathroom to prevent mould and mildew from forming. Ones with an overrun timer are brilliant, as they stay on and keep doing their job for a while after you’ve switched the light off and left the house. Ours keeps removing moisture and humidity for 20 minutes afterwards. Make sure you get a quiet one so that it doesn’t annoy you while you’re taking a relaxing bath or shower!

Buy a boiling water tap

Waiting for the kettle doesn’t really take that long, but it just feels so tedious! A boiling water tap means instant cups of tea, water instantly ready to put in the pan with your spaghetti and water the right temperature for blanching vegetables.

Get a smart thermostat

It’s a bitterly cold winter day and you walk through the door to be greeted by an equally cold house. Well, fortunately the technology exists for you to turn the heating on or adjust the level from your phone. Coming home to a toasty house makes such a difference! Smart thermostats also help you to be more energy-efficient, saving money and the planet. Some actually turn the heating off when you leave the house and switch it back on when you return.

Do some gardening

Green spaces make such a difference to your mental health! Therefore, one of the best home improvements you can make is to ensure that your garden is a beautiful space full of greenery. Even if you don’t have a garden, investing in some pot plants can really help to lift your mood.
