Book Reviews: Growing Pains & Where The Heart Is

Gifted¦ I have recently been sent two lovely books to read with Autumn that I’d like to share with you all. These are Where The Heart Is by Irma Gold and Susannah Crispe and Growing Pains by Alison McLennan and Melissa Johns. Everyone knows how important is is for children to have a good understanding of English, maths and science by the time they leave school. However, I think one of the most important things you can teach your child is to be kind. Both these books are aimed at 4-8 year olds and beautifully support that notion.

My Wedding Day: Finding the dress of my dreams!

Life is SO busy with two children. I recently wrote about my wedding invitations and how this June I was planning on FINALLY writing about all aspects of my wedding. Yep, just like I plan to every year! Yet here we are on the 18th of June and I’ve literally written that one post still. Oops! So here I am, attempting to write about another aspect of my wedding while Reuben sleeps and I try to ignore the pain of mastitis. Today I’m focusing on the dress! Arguably the most exciting part of the wedding. Like most little girls, I used to spent hours daydreaming about what my wedding dress might be like. I’d lay on the floor of my room drawing sweetheart necklines and big skirts, yet the dress I actually chose wasn’t like that at all!

Week Two: 30 Days Wild 2021

After a successful first week of 30 Days Wild, I think I speak for us both when I say we were excited to start a new week of fun nature related activities! Already, I have noticed that Autumn is paying attention to nature more. Me too, actually. I have noticed she’s becoming braver regarding nature too. She’s not quite as scared of bees as she was and is definitely getting more hands on. Here’s what we’ve been up to over the last week.

Living plastic-free for a day

Contains sponsored links¦ As you’ll know if you’ve been reading my blog for a while, plastic is something that has been really concerning me for some years now. While we’ve already made lots of swaps n our daily life, I can’t help but feel like I could be doing more sometimes. With Autumn and I doing 30 Days Wild currently, it felt like the perfect time to set ourselves the challenge of going plastic-free for a day. We went to a We went to a zero-waste shop the day before for a few essentials to prepare a little, but I decided that we’d mostly give it a go with things that we already had.

How to Support Your Child When Going Through a Separation

Collaborative Post¦ The process of separation can prompt your family to ponder a myriad of potential ‘futures’, all whilst combating ever-present feelings of uncertainty. A lot of families who have experienced separation do, in retrospect, perceive that period of time to be a valuable turning point that can influence the future of your family dynamic for better or for worse, this being dependent on how you and your partner approach introducing your child to this new reality. Of course, navigating the complicated nature of separation with your child can be a daunting thought, rest assured that your strength will only be a source of assurance and security for your child.

Here are just a few small ways you can support your child when going through a separation.

Week One: 30 Days Wild 2021

Last Tuesday, I stumbled across 30 Days Wild in a Facebook group I’m in. It’s a fun challenge set by The Wildlife Trusts to take part in ‘one random act of wildness’ each day. I immediately set about planning some activities for us for the month ahead! When I told Autumn about it, she seemed excited too. I’m hoping that this will help her to learn about and appreciate the natural world more and for us both to feel more connected to nature. Too often we’re rushing around busily and just don’t notice things. Here’s how our first week went.
