Before I begin, this post is about the season, not my daughter! When I think of autumn, the first thing I think of is the charm of the golden sunlight shining through the resplendent crimson, titian and ochre leaves. A beautiful name for a beautiful girl, who coincidentally was born on the autumnal equinox. While I’m always sad to say goodbye to the warmth of summer, there is plenty to adore about the autumn.
I know I’ve already mentioned it, but the colour of the trees never ceases to amaze me. I just love going for walks to admire the amazing leaves adorning the trees. One of my favourite places to go for a walk is stunning Sheffield Park in East Sussex.
It’s time to start drinking hot chocolate again! I love going for a walk and coming home to a mug of warming soup or hot chocolate! It just doesn’t hit the same in the summer. Obviously it needs to be topped with squirty cream and marshmallows to have the full effect!
Again, I know you can use a slow cooker in the summer but it just doesn’t feel anywhere near as appealing. In the summer I tend to feel more like eating burgers and salads. In the autumn, however, I love nothing more than coming home to the glorious aroma of a hearty casserole bubbling away in the slow cooker!
I love a dark lipstick! With shades mimicking nature at this time of year, it’s the perfect time to leave the corals and pinks behind and opt for darker colours.
Okay, so, I’d rather feel warm. I really feel the cold! Nevertheless, I do love the feeling of cosiness that the cooler weather brings. There’s nothing quite like snuggling up under a blanket with a hot drink and a good film or series on Netflix.
I quite possibly like bonfires more than I like the fireworks on bonfire night (as long as I know hedgehogs have been carefully looked out for!) I love the smell of them and they always make me feel really nostalgic, somehow.
We’ve taken Autumn pumpkin picking every year since she was born. It’s become a tradition that I really look forward to every year! I’m really looking forward to taking Reuben for his first visit this October. I wonder what we’ll make this year – will we just carve them, or will I find time to make a pumpkin pie again?
Autumn and I really enjoy celebrating Halloween together! Before the pandemic, we both dressed up and she loved answering the door to Trick-or-Treaters! We like decorating the house and doing spooky activities together.
What are your favourite things about this season? I’d love to hear from you in the comments!

hehehe! I did think this post was about your daughter. I love this time of year too. The hot chocolate and slow cooker meals are the best. x
