5 tips for designing your perfect bathroom

Sponsored Post¦ Bathrooms are one of the most expensive rooms to overhaul, so it’s important that you get it right. Any errors can be costly and a hassle to alter. Do you want your bathroom to be merely functional, an calm oasis away from the stresses of the 9-5, or a place that wows all who enter? Whatever your preferences, here are some tips to ensure you achieve the bathroom you’ve been envisioning:

Give Yourself Time To Plan

Arguably, the best piece of advice is not to rush into anything. Give yourself ample time to pore over every detail from the tiles, to the taps and the type of flooring. If you are not installing the bathroom yourselves, ask people you know for their recommendations and do your research. Giving yourself the time to look into everything will give you the best chance of having the perfect end result.

Invest in a Steam Shower

A hot shower at the end of a long day is a very welcome form of relaxation. However, a steam shower provides you the option of a steam room. What could be more relaxing than allowing the steam to melt away the tensions in your muscles? (There are many other health benefits too; they’re great for dry skin!) The temperature and duration of the steam is customisable and generated quickly. Some steam showers allow for the addition of essential oils for an aromatherapeutic experience. Insignia Steam Showers offer this, as well as the ability for music to be played via Bluetooth within the cubicle and they have beautiful seven colours of lighting to add to the atmosphere. Even in shower mode they’re better, as they usually have a monsoon shower head, omnidirectional body jets and a handheld shower head.

Lighting

It may sound trivial, but lighting can actually make or break a room. Lighting is important to the entire feel of a space. Warm light provides a cosy feel, whereas cool light is more modern. Bear in mind that you should consider what the lighting in the rest of your home is. It would look odd walking through from one space with warm lighting to another with cool. Meanwhile, you should also consider whether you want your lighting to be purely functional or quirky and decorative!

On a different note, it goes without saying that if there are dark spaces in a bathroom, it can be dangerous due to slippery surfaces. As such, make sure it is well lit.

Storage

The last thing you want is for your shiny new bathroom to look cluttered and messy with toiletries on window ledges and the edge of the bath. Therefore, it’s imperative that you give yourself plentiful storage. Consider all the things you usually store in your bathroom then allow some extra space. Take some measurements and make sure that the tallest items you own will actually fit in your cupboards. A decent amount of storage and the resulting neatness of the bathroom will have a surprisingly large effect on the ambience of the room. If you are using open storage solutions such as shelving, use large towels, baskets and pretty jars to create a feature.

Add Luxurious Touches

Last, but certainly not least, add some luxurious touches to turn it into your sanctuary. Avoid cold feet in the winter with underfloor heating. Ensure you choose towels which are good quality and are soft to the touch but will dry well. Vases of fresh flowers or some pot plants will also add a little je ne sais quoi to the room.
