In the current climate, it seems really odd that only last weekend we were at the cinema. It’s certainly felt like longer than a week with all the news and tension. However, our last cinema trip for the foreseeable future was a lovely experience. Last Saturday, we were invited to see a screening of Julia Donaldson’s Zog and The Highway Rat at Showcase Cinema de Lux Bluewater. Autumn, Dave and I were really excited to see it and relax in the luxurious reclining chairs that make the cinema experience so much better!
Zog and The Highway Rat
The screenings of Zog and The Highway Rat were 30 minutes each. This was the perfect duration for keeping the attention of little ones. Autumn really enjoyed them, but Zog was her favourite.
Zog follows the story of a dragon who is very keen and always tries his best. He aims to win a shiny gold star at the end of each year of dragon school. However, as hard as he tries, it doesn’t happen. Along the way, a young girl who also doesn’t fit into the mould helps him in various ways. In the end, he ends up helping her too.
The Highway Rat was about a greedy rat, who steals food and belongings from other animals on the highway. One day, one of the animals uses his greed against him and he learns an important lesson the hard way. The animation in this story is absolutely beautiful, particularly the snowy village scenes towards the end.
The cinema
Showcase Cinema de Lux, Bluewater is conveniently located within a short walk of a couple of car parks. There are also lots of eateries in the same area, ideal for an afternoon out with the kids.
The seats are so comfortable as they’re so wide and very cushioned. My favourite part, though, is the fact that they recline. I’ve actually managed to fall asleep in one on a previous visit! Uncomfortable chairs has always been one thing that put me off of going to the cinema. However, these screens offer all the comfort of your favourite armchair or sofa at home.
Not to mention, the clarity of the screens and the sound is second to none. I really notice the difference when I go to other screens now!
Hopefully it won’t be too long until we can all proceed as normal and go to the cinema again. Meanwhile, I hope you and your loved ones take care and stay safe.
Disclosure: We were provided with tickets to this screening for the purpose of this review. As always, all views and opinions are honest and my own.
