The Little Book of Dior: Review and Giveaway

Review¦ Little Book of Dior by Karen Homer is a must-have for anyone with an interest in fashion. It takes you on a journey from Christian Dior’s childhood all the way through to the fashion house today. Beautifully illustrated with photographs from the very beginning of Dior’s story, it would be just as at home on a coffee table as on a bookshelf. I have 3 copies to giveaway – just enter using the widget in this blog post!

The Beginning

It was fascinating to read about Christian Dior’s childhood and how it later inspired his designs. After some turbulent years, his fashion house was born in 1946. Less than two years after the Second World War ended, his first collection was revealed. His “New Look” was an instant hit with journalists.

I didn’t realise that from the start, he wanted women to have the full package. Therefore, he also designed underwear, accessories and perfume for women too. Sadly, he was only the head of Dior for 10 years before he died. It was amazing reading about his achievements in that time, creating the classic Dior we know and love today.

Changing Faces

The book goes on to take a look at how the head of Dior has changed over the years, as well as the differing styles and creativity they’ve brought to the label. I was delighted to read about John Galliano in particular. As a 90’s child with a love of beauty and fashion, I remember hearing his name and seeing (and loving) some of his designs).

This book takes you on a wonderful journey from the fashion house’s classic roots, to the brand today, now just as revered for its streetwear as its classic gowns.

Hollywood and Royalty

Of course, a book about Dior wouldn’t be complete without show casing some of the amazing women who have worn the brand over the years. From Hollywood to royalty, the house has fans worldwide. One of my most favourite photographs in the book was this one of Princess Margaret in her beautiful 21st birthday gown.

It depends on my mood – you can never go wrong with classic but sometimes, I like to let out my inner hipster. It’s all about expression and for me that changes a lot.
