5 Tips and Tricks for TikTok

Collaborative Post¦ Social media platforms come and go, but since the Covid-19 pandemic started TikTok has really taken off. It is clear to see it is the most popular platform right now, especially amongst the younger generation. I’ve recently started dabbling in it a little myself. Here are a few tips and tricks I’ve learnt along the way.

1. Post daily

If you really want to make waves on TikTok, you need to make sure that you are posting at least once a day! Your popularity relies on you appearing on people’s feeds as much as possible. Of course, the easiest way to do that is by posting content. If you are able to, post a few times a day! Just remember to try and get the balance of value quality over quantity.

2. Good quality videos

Speaking of quality, you’ll need to make sure that your videos are high definition and steady. Filming in the mov file format can be a good move, as it’s a really convenient file format for making edits. However, the file size is large so you’ll want to convert from mov to mp4 before uploading it to TikTok.

3. Use trending hashtags

If you want to be seen, you need to use hashtags on your content (much like Twitter and Instagram!) As with other platforms, your content is much more likely to be seen if you use a hashtag that is trending. It’ll also help people to find your videos if they search for something you’ve hashtagged. Following trends on TikTok in general is a good way to be seen. Just try to get in early, before you get lost among the masses!

4. Use your skills to your advantage

Got a particular skill? Great! Videos where people show themselves doing something well e.g. dancing, singing or skateboard do really well on TikTok. Likewise, if you’re good at something you can show other people to do, why not make a “How To” video, or even a series if you can! Pretty much anything goes – even a sleep doctor has recently gone viral!

5. Interact

Last, but not least, interaction! Following people on TikTok, liking their videos and commenting on posts always makes social media feel more worthwhile but pays off for you too. If you like someone’s videos or if you make a comment someone thinks is funny or agrees with, they’re likely to hit your page and see what you’re posting. If a follower asks you a question, answer them! Even better, make a video answering their question and link it under their comment. Anyone else wondering the same thing will click it too, giving you more views.
