Celebrating our 5th wedding anniversary

On Friday, my husband and I celebrated 12 years since we met and our 5th wedding anniversary. It was a bit of a strange one, really. On previous anniversaries we’ve been on holiday or been able to go somewhere for dinner. Of course, with things still being in partial lockdown, those things were out of the question!

Fortunately, things don’t have to be elaborate to have a good time. Luckily for us, the storms held off and the sun was shining down on us with weather just like it was on our wedding day.

With Autumn in tow, we went for a drive out to the middle of nowhere and had a picnic. We spent hours just enjoying delicious food, watching the clouds and playing games. It was one of those idyllic afternoons that I’d love to just go back to again and again when I need a happy place. It’s very rare that I feel so content and peaceful. In so many ways, it was much better than if we had made fancier plans.

It’s insane to me how fast the past 5 years have passed. The 5 years we were engaged seemed to take forever to pass. Perhaps it was because we were waiting to get married, whereas for the last 5 we’ve just been living life, not waiting for something to happen? Of course, it probably helps that we’ve had Autumn keeping us super busy! She just doesn’t stop moving and talking and wanting to learn about all kinds of things. It’s wonderful, if exhausting for us! Trying to keep her occupied in lockdown has definitely been a challenge.

Making memories

Fingers crossed that the next 5 years are full of wonderful memories and not too many rubbish ones. There has been a lot of heartache over the last 5, but we’ve come out of the other side stronger.
