I recently went to the Blog On Toys conference in Manchester. One of the biggest highlights for me was that Nintendo were there with Labo. If you’re not aware of it already, cardboard and technology combine for customisable fun with Labo and Nintendo Switch. Let me show you how awesome it is – and as a bonus, Nintendo have kindly provided me with a Labo Variety Kit and Customisation Set to giveaway!
So, what’s it all about?
When your kit arrives, you get a game to put in your Nintendo Switch. It’s accompanied by sheets of cardboard, with bits that easily pop out. The lines you need to fold, following the instructions on screen, are already prefolded. Building your toy-cons looks really fun and some take longer than others. The Customisation Set provides you with tape, stencil sheets and stickers to customise them. So, when you’re done building, you can put your own mark on them! One of my favourite features of the Customisation Set is the eye stickers. These are quickly recognisable as the eyes of characters from your favourite Nintendo games! Of course, you can also use your own pens and paints to add even more colour to them.
Once you’re all done building your toy-con, you’re ready to play – Labo style!
What’s in the Nintendo Labo Variety Kit?
Toy-Con RC Car
The toy-con RC car is one of the quickest and simplest Labo makes. It’s a great starting place before you go on to bigger, more complex builds! Battling these cars looks so much fun. Having a plough on the front is definitely an advantage for knocking over your competition!
Toy-Con Fishing Rod
The fishing rod is fascinating and was quite possibly my favourite toy-con at the blogging conference last month! It’s fun catching fish in the shallower waters and reeling them in, splatting them against the screen! It’s fun seeing what type you’ve caught and how much it weighs. However, the real challenge lies in the deeper waters! Will you manage to catch a shark without it wriggling away before you manage to reel it out of the water?
Toy-Con House
In the house, you are tasked with looking after a little monster! Using different pieces you can run the tap, play a game to win him little treats or enter the portal! This looks like really chilled out fun.
Toy-Con Motorbike
Going along the track, the toy-con motorbike allows you to steer flawlessly! A super cool feature allows you to use the IR camera on the right joy stick to scan things to create your own stadium to drive your motorbike around. Ever wanted to ride a motorbike around a track in the shape of your hand? Now’s your chance! This is also compatible with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe!
Toy-Con Piano
I also got to play with the Labo piano last month and it was really good! You can use various cardboard cutouts to change the frequency. Pieces you put in the top change the sounds, so you don’t just have to play a normal piano with the keyboard. You can also play tunes using cat or old man noises!
