I hated my daughter's name
When you’re pregnant you spend hours looking at baby names with your partner, trying to pick the perfect one for your unborn child. My husband and I were no different; hours were spent searching the internet looking for inspiration. So, it pains me to say that for a period of time, I couldn’t stand my daughter’s name, despite the fact that I was the one who had chosen it. Hearing her name made me flinch; I felt like I wanted to change it to something else…
How (not) to remove a corkscrew nose piercing in 20 steps
The other week, I bought myself a nose ring. After a year and a half of having my nose pierced, I thought I’d finally change my stud to a ring as I love how they look.
When I got my nose pierced, the piercer told me that it was a corkscrew nose stud and that they’re difficult to take out and put in. So, this is the tale of how I took my stud out and put the ring in.
30 things to do before 30
As my friends keep reminding me, as I have recently turned 25 I am now closer to 30 than I am 20! Quite frankly, this kind of scares me as time seems to have gone so fast since I was 16 and seems to go quicker each year. As such, I felt the need to make a list of things I’d like to do before I turn 30. Hopefully I can achieve quite a few of these, so even if the time goes quickly, I’ll feel like I’ve achieved a lot with it!
When I found out I was pregnant – Life as Mrs D
Hi and welcome to my guest series – When I found out I was pregnant. This week I’m excited to introduce Sophie from Life As Mrs D!
When do you start feeling like a mother?
It was late January 2016 that I took my positive pregnancy test, so I’ve been thinking a lot about this time last year. I was thinking about when I started being a mum and when I started feeling like a mum. Without getting into a pro-life vs. pro-choice debate, I’d like to share my story and discuss with you when you first started being a mum.
Autumn's 3 most favourite books, March 2017
Inspired by World Book Day tomorrow, (2nd March 2017), I thought I’d write about some of the books Autumn has in her collection or has borrowed from the library. Since Autumn was only a 6 week old baby, I’ve been buying and reading books to her often.
It’s never too early to start reading to babies, as it helps them to learn and it’s another activity you can do to help develop their senses. To begin with, black and white books are best as they can’t see especially clearly and they enjoy looking at the contrast. As they get to a couple of months old, they start to pay more attention to bright colours. As a 5 month old, Autumn now absolutely loves books, especially if they’re brightly coloured! She really looks at them and interacts with them by touching them and trying to hold them. Sometimes she even tries to turn the pages by herself!
Autumn seems to have three favourite books currently:
Be quick for Kent Big Weekend 2017
Every year since 2011, there has been an event called Kent Big Weekend/The Big Weekend. This year, it takes place on Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd April.
Kent Big Weekend allows thousands of residents in Kent to enjoy a day out at one of 117 of the many tourist attractions that the county has to offer. Entry closes on Friday 3rd March 2017, though, so you’ll need to be quick!
Sunday Review: Bambo Nature Nappies
A few weeks ago on Twitter, the Conscious Parent Company were asking for parent bloggers who would like to try and review the award-winning Bambo Nature Nappies. I’m not a huge fan of using disposable nappies, but struggle to fit reusable cloth nappies into my daily life (as lovely as they are). As these nappies are eco-friendly disposable nappies, they’re somewhere between the two, so I jumped at the chance!
Think before you formula-bash
I haven’t written a poem for about a decade, possibly longer. However, I have some pretty strong views on women insulting people for bottle feeding their babies and I thought I’d try to express it through poetry. Even just a mention of breastfeeding or seeing someone breastfeeding hurts someone like me. Please don’t get me wrong, I’m not asking people to not mention breastfeeding around me, or to not breastfeed around me or others. I’m fully supportive of breastfeeding, I just think there needs to be some more sensitivity to women who formula feed their babies.
I absolutely loved breastfeeding, I’ve mentioned it in a previous post about My Breastfeeding Journey. I tried my hardest with all the odds against me to keep going as long as I could and felt like I had the experience stolen from me by a cruel turn of events. I felt very down after I had to stop as I felt a massive sense of disappointment and failure.
