Start With Their Style And Personality

Your partner’s unique style is really the best place to start when it comes to choosing a meaningful engagement ring, so think about the type of jewellery they already wear and use that as a guide. Do they go for classic and minimal? Are they more into bolder, bigger jewellery? Is it the unique design they love? Whatever it is, that’s what you should get them.

You could buy something brand new, something vintage, or something that’s specifically made from your ideas from a designer, but as long as it matches your loved one’s taste and style, they’re sure to love it (and it shows you really know them, which is a real bonus).

Think About The Symbolism

An engagement ring is one big symbol, so it makes sense that you should think about the symbolism behind it as well and ensure it makes sense. Maybe there’s a certain type of gemstone that has a special meaning, or a type of metal that has significance, or perhaps your partner is keen on ethical and eco-friendly ideas, so getting a ring made with the best lab grown diamonds is the right move. Or what about the shape? Shapes have a lot of symbolism, like a three-stone ring that represents the past, present, and future, for example, or you could go even further and get a cluster of stones that represent the constellation you first met under.

As you can see, you can go as far as you want to here, and as long as you’re shopping within budget and you’ve really thought about the symbolism, that could be exactly what solves your problem for you and gives you the ring that’s perfect for your partner.

Keep It Practical

It’s easy to get carried away when you start to think about all the different types of rings you can get, but there’s one thing you should always keep in mind – practicality. Don’t get carried away with the emotions of the moment and forget about your partner’s lifestyle because once you do that, you might end up with a ring they can’t wear, or at least not all the time.

One thing to think about is how active they are; if they’ve got a hands-on hobby or they play a lot of sport, for example, a ring with a flat setting might be ideal, otherwise it could get snagged and cause problems. And what about their job? If they’re behind a screen all day that’s one thing, but if they’ve got a manual job, that’s quite another, and the ring might need to be different.
