Review: Xavier and His Magical Blueberry Muffins

Sponsored Post¦ If you’ve heard of Anges de Sucre, you’ll know that this London cake shop are synonymous for their intricate designs and selling “the best cakes in London”. In an exciting new venture, they have just brought out their first StoryBake cook book! Aimed at 2-6 year old children, this book tells the story of a young boy called Xavier. He loves to bake, dream and dream about baking. Children will be so excited to watch Xavier bake, then follow the recipe to make the exact same muffins as he does!

The Story

Xavier and His Magical Blueberry Muffins can be viewed as either a free PDF or bought as a colour copy book. The latter retails for £7.99 and would make a wonderful gift! This special book engages children with rhyme and beautiful, colourful illustrations. My 5 year old daughter struggled to choose a favourite cake illustration, but eventually settled on a slice of rainbow cake!

Reading Xavier and His Magical Blueberry Muffins

The story shows Xavier dreaming about baking a cake and thinking about how much his mummy loves blueberries. He then begins to bake his magical blueberry muffins as a surprise for her! Reading this book then baking the muffins is a lovely way to spend an afternoon as a family.

Baking the blueberry muffins

I was pleased to find that despite the exceptional reputation of Anges de Sucre, the blueberry muffins didn’t require any fancy ingredients. In fact, most of them were already in my cupboard. The only thing I needed to buy was the blueberries!

Ingredients for blueberry muffins

The recipe was very straightforward for little ones to follow. In fact, my 5 year old could do everything almost completely independently! It was quick to put together and only took 20 minutes in the oven.

They were really delicious, much lighter than any muffins I’ve ever bought from a shop. I’ll definitely be baking them with Autumn again! Reading the book and baking with children helps to teach them all kinds of skills. Plus, the muffins are a great way to sneak some more fruit into them!
