Collaborative post¦ Wedding planning is something that can come naturally for some but can be a challenge for others. Regardless of which category you fall into, or somewhere in between, it’s good to know what the mistakes are so that you don’t make them for your wedding.
Whether you’re getting married on a budget or creating a wedding plan for a guest-heavy wedding reception, here are five wedding planning mistakes to avoid.

1. Not setting a budget
If you’ve not set a budget for your wedding, then this could prove a little dangerous when you’re starting to spend your money. Not having a budget will lead you to make purchases that could then creep into other areas that you’ve not planned for or paid for yet.
If you’ve spent all your money on the first few splurges, how are you going to afford the rest of the wedding? A budget will help to navigate the numerous costs that come with wedding planning, and it will also help to ensure you spend your money wisely so that everything gets purchased.
2. Not booking vendors in advance
Vendors are something you want to book well in advance so that you’re not disappointed. From the wedding videographer to the catering, there are lots of different vendors involved with the average wedding day.
That’s why you’ll want to make sure you’ve booked your vendors well in advance to avoid them getting booked up by someone else. A lot of photographers and videographers, for example, are booked up two to three years down the line, so you’ll want to get in with your favorite before they get booked too.
3. Not securing a venue
Securing a wedding venue is an absolute necessity and ideally should be the first thing you do. If you don’t secure your desired wedding venue soon enough, the date or dates you’re after will likely get booked, and you’ll be disappointed that you can no longer get the venue you’ve been dreaming of.
Of course, there are some last-minute dropouts and available dates that crop up for some venues, but that can’t always be guaranteed.
4. Not having backup plans or insurance
Having a backup plan, should things go wrong, is always recommended. Whether that be a plan for if it rains and you’re getting married outside, or a backup plan should the wedding band fail to show up.
These backup plans can help save your day in an emergency situation. It’s also worthwhile to get insurance in place too where possible.
5. Seating people in the wrong places
Seating people in the wrong places can prove a difficult situation, especially if you’ve got quite a mix of guests attending. However, this is a point in your wedding planning that you should spend plenty of time doing so that you select the right people for the seats and tables available.
These wedding planning mistakes can all influence the success of the day, so make sure to use these tips to ensure your wedding day goes smoothly.
