What’s On in London Theatres This Autumn

Collaborative Post¦ I always associate London theatres with the autumn, probably because that’s when I’m more likely to go to see shows! While they’re still good in the summer, for me there’s just something about walking around the West End all lit up while the streets are dark, wet and windy. As we head into the final part of 2023, there are a fantastic variety of London theatre shows to choose from. There’s something for everyone; whether you’re going with friends, on a date or with the kids!

The last show I went to see was Frozen The Musical with my mum and daughter, which is one of the offerings this autumn.

Frozen the Musical

Going to see a London show is a great activity for half term. You can make a full day of it like we did! We got the train to St. Pancras station, then took the tube from King’s Cross to Covent Garden. We were all excited to see the huge Frozen posters in the tube station, as if we weren’t enthusiastic enough already! Naturally, we insisted on taking my 6 year old’s photo by it.

We wandered around Covent Garden for a while, window shopping in the market and watching the mesmerising street entertainers! Then we headed to Bill’s for some dinner before going to Milk Train for dessert. If you’ve never heard of it, it is the most amazing ice cream shop! They have loads of flavours and do special seasonal ice creams. They’re famous for doing ice creams surrounded by a big cloud of candyfloss!

Only a 3 minute walk from Milk Train was the Theatre Royal Drury Lane. Walking in past a display cabinet of Elsa’s beautifully embellished dress, the excitement was palpable.

We were in for an absolutely magical couple of hours. The storyline does differ a little from the movie (probably to make it more suitable for theatre!) However, I think I possibly enjoyed it more. I just had to explain to my daughter that things aren’t always exactly the same at the theatre as they are in film.

There was one moment that left me absolutely flabbergasted where Elsa had a costume change into a stunning sparkly blue dress. I just couldn’t work out how it had been done; it was like real magic. I think I must have blinked. Yet even if I hadn’t I think I’d be none the wiser! I would love to go again and would recommend it to anyone, but especially Frozen fans!
