How to choose the right bikini for you

Collaborative Post¦ Finding a bikini that makes you feel comfortable, complements your figure and fits perfectly into your summer plans can feel like quite the task – especially with so many styles, fabrics and colours to choose from.

However, as spirited lovers of all things summer, we certainly know a thing or two about finding a bikini that ticks all the boxes – and are of course willing to share our knowledge to help you achieve just that! Follow along to check out our top tips and you’ll soon be ready to hit the beach in style.

Purpose

The first step to narrowing down your bikini search is to decide what you’ll be wearing it for. Will you be lounging under the shade of a palm tree on a white sandy beach? Sipping on ice cold cocktails at a pool party? Or even tearing up the surf at your favourite break? Depending on what you plan on doing in your new two piece will determine the fabric, shape and coverage that’s best for you!

If you’ll be spending long summer days relaxing on the sand and cooling off in the pool, a cheeky cut and minimal support will suit just fine, however if you’re making a splash with water sports or heading out for an afternoon surf, opt for something with a little more coverage that combines style and practicality.

Coverage and Support

Both coverage and support vary substantially between bikini styles and fabrics. Top styles such as the classic tri tie bikini top or strapless bandeau offer less coverage and a similar level of support, and are therefore ideal for a relaxing day spent spent lazing on the beach. Underwired bikini tops or those with thicker straps offer much more support, keeping you feeling confident and secure for summer afternoons spent in the surf.

The right amount of coverage on the bottom will depend on what makes you feel comfortable. Whether that’s a cheeky Brazilian cut or a high waisted, vintage inspired silhouette, opt for whatever you feel the most beautiful in and don’t be afraid to mix and match styles to create your dream fit.

High cut bottoms offer extra coverage and are universally flattering.

Sizing

If you’re purchasing a new bikini in store, finding the right size is a lot more straight forward than when shopping online. Before you buy online, be sure to know your measurements and refer to the size guide before hitting the checkout. If you’re still unsure, read the product details as these usually contain information on what size the model is wearing and whether the piece runs true to size.

Colour Palette

Once you’ve decided on the purpose, coverage and support, it’s time to choose a colour palette. With hundreds of shades, prints and patterns to choose from, especially when shopping online, it can feel overwhelming! Start by finding what shades you’re most drawn to and feel the most confident in; is it cool colours such as pastels, blues and pinks? Or warmer hues such as oranges and yellows?

Explore your own personal style and lean in to bohemian inspired floral prints and geometric patterns or get back to basics with block colours in bright summery hues or deep, earthy shades.

From all over prints to staple solid colours, there’s a shade or pattern to suit every taste and complement your complexion.

When on the hunt for the next bikini to add to your swimwear collection, follow our top tips and you’ll be sure to find the perfect piece that makes you look and feel incredible and fits perfectly into your summer plans.
