Why a garden room is the perfect addition to your garden

Collaborative Post¦ A garden room is a beautiful outbuilding situated in your garden, with glazing on the side letting lots of light in. They’re a perfect addition to your garden and are a good way to create more usable indoor space. It can be a much more practical and affordable option than having an extension! The potential uses are endless. Let’s take a look at 10 reasons why you should consider getting one:

1.  Usable all year round

Garden rooms are insulated, so you can use them all year round! They are designed to keep warm in the winter and cooler in the summer. The insulation also helps to keep outside sounds to a minimum and keep noise in.

2. Creates more indoor space

Sometimes you just need more room! Moving house is expensive and a lot of hassle, especially if you already like where you are. You can create more usable indoor space by getting a garden room.

3. Cheaper than an extension

Of course, rather than moving house, you could have an extension. However, this is costly and can be time consuming, especially if you need planning permission! Having a garden room is usually significantly cheaper than having an extension done.

4. You don’t usually need planning permission

As long as your garden room isn’t going to be massive or have cooking or showering facilities, you don’t usually need planning permission. This makes it a lot easier and quicker to create more usable indoor space!

5. Quick to construct

A garden room can be constructed within a matter of weeks. This is much faster than any other solution for more indoor space would take!

6. Low maintenance

Once built, you don’t really have to do much to maintain your garden room!

7. Aesthetically pleasing

Garden rooms look aesthetically pleasing both inside and out. They look lovely in the garden and are beautiful inside too. The amount of natural light and view into the garden create a wonderful atmosphere, as do the spotlights at night.

8. Versatile

There are so many things you can use a garden room for. You can have a number of plug sockets and heating, which helps lend one to all kinds of uses. What would you use yours for? A relaxing space, home office, gym, workshop or studio? Whatever you need from it, it can be made into the perfect space for your needs. You could even have partition walls to cover multiple uses.

9. Inspiring

Surrounded by nature and with lots of natural light, a garden room is a relaxing and inspiring space. Whatever the purpose of the space is, you can be certain that it will allow your creativity to flow!

10. Separation of home and work life

Since the pandemic began, working from home has been on the rise. I know we’re not the only household that has had some real problems with trying to keep the noise level of children down. A garden room office would mean no more “Shut that door!” and “Please leave the room, I’m working!” Even if the children were playing in the garden, the fact that garden rooms are largely sound-proof means that you shouldn’t be disrupted.

Not only that, but it can be difficult to switch off from work life when you’re working and living in the same space. The boundaries can become too blurred. Therefore, having a home office in a garden room is better for your mental wellbeing (even more so as you’ll be surrounded by so much light and greenery!)
