Collaborative Post¦ Buying a new car is exciting, especially if it’s the car of your dreams. However, when you are buying a car there is more to think about than just how good it looks.

Car accidents are a reality this is why the safety features that are included in a vehicle are so important. If you haven’t bought a car in a while you may not be aware of some of the newest safety features that you should be on the lookout for.

Here’s a look at some safety features you should definitely ask about when purchasing your new car.

Electronic Stability Control

Electronic stability control will improve your steering control should your vehicle ever lose traction. It does this by using a sensor that detects when you are losing traction and compensates for it.

This is a great feature to have in a car especially when you are driving on rugged roads or in poor weather.

Backup Cameras

A backup camera comes in handy when you are parking. You will be able to see you what is behind you when you are backing up. This helps to reduce collisions in parking lots.

The backup camera is put on the rear of the car and connected to a screen that is on your dashboard.

Heated Side Mirrors and Steering Wheels

Heating is great for reducing condensation on your side mirrors. They are especially useful for removing snow and ice from mirrors. This feature helps to improve your visibility in your rearview mirror.

Some cars such as the new Hyundai Sonata are outfitted with heated steering wheels. This feature helps your hands stay warm in cold weather so you can focus on the road and not your cold hands.

All Wheel Drive

Cars with all-wheel drive have a powertrain that will power all four wheels on the vehicle at once. This is beneficial because it helps to maximize traction.

When traction is maximized you are safer on roads that have a lot of snow, gravel, dirt, and rain. This can help to prevent car crashes.

Lane Departure Warning

Lane departure warnings are great for giving you an alert when you’ve gone outside your lane without using a turn signal. Over time as you use this feature you will always remember to signal that you are about to leave one lane and enter into another. This will greatly reduce the chances of collision.

Safety First

One of the most important things to consider when buying a vehicle is the safety of the vehicle. No matter how good a vehicle looks if it is unsafe you are putting your life and other passengers at risk.

Fortunately, newer cars come with many safety features that you should be on the lookout for when deciding which car you should purchase. It is better to get a car that has several of the newest safety features than to get a car that looks good but is not a safe as it should be.
