What’s the most soundproof curtain out there?

Collaborative Post¦ More than just for aesthetic and texture, curtain fabrics have a lot to offer for us. Most people buy curtains to block excessive sunlight from going in their house, and other people use it for privacy.

Living in the sub-urban part of a place gives us a peaceful life. Houses are not too much close nor too far from each other, and one is able to enjoy the peace and serenity with only the sound of birds chirping. Unfortunately, it’s a different story for people living in cities. Living in the urban part in your area makes you listen to the sound of car engines and loud chatters from your neighbours (might as well include unexpected parties next door). The constant noise in the cities can greatly distract us and worse, can even affect our quality of sleep. Who doesn’t want a peace and quiet time after a long day’s work?

Now, when most people think of sound isolation, they often think of choosing apartment with thick walls to block excessive sound from factors close by. However, it’s just so hard to find those types of flats in populated cities. We may have overlooked it but curtains can somehow assist in the blocking of unwanted noises. The thicker the curtain, the better it is to isolate noise in and out of your place.

Choosing a curtain fabric that is soundproof can be easy-peasy for buyers. You just have to make sure that your fabrics are much thicker and heavier than the usual ones. These properties actually allow a high degree of sound absorption thus blocking sound wherever it might come from. If you would want to block sound, we recommend getting at least velvet or suede curtain fabric for that.

Suede and Velvet Curtain Fabric

Apart from thick curtain fabrics to consider for blocking sound, it is also important to look for something with noise cancelling texture. Smooth fabrics may reflect sound waves, but textured fabrics are better in absorbing them. Weaving textured fabrics require the fibres to be unevenly woven, so as to create the texture on the final product of the fabric. With the uneven surfaces from curtain fabrics, it blocks sound by making soundwaves bounce from the different parts of the textured fabric, thus making it hard for sound to go through the curtains.

Yorkshire Fabric Shop recommends buying velvet and suede fabric to cancel out noises. These fabrics are heavy, thick, and textured and are capable of blocking an amount of sound waves. However, suede can also be expensive, that’s why most people prefer to purchase velvet curtain fabrics. It cheaper, and is somehow just as effective as suede.

Furthermore, suede and velvet fabric curtains are mainly used to produce blackout curtains. It is called such because it blocks light from the outside. Much more, suede and velvet curtain fabrics are good to block light and noises to have the privacy that you want and is an added quality to improve one’s quality of sleep.

For Yorkshire Fabric Shop, these two are the best curtain fabrics to purchase in order to have the peace and quiet that you want even when living in the busiest part of the city. It is then recommended to choose fabrics which are thick and textured to prevent the excessive noise from going through your place. Buying curtain fabrics is again more than just the aesthetic; we should also look for the best quality that can also serve our purpose.

Yorkshire Fabric Shop offers a lot of suede and velvet variety. We have all the colours, patterns, and textured curtain fabrics that you want.
