A letter to my daughter at 9 months old

A letter to my daughter at 9 months old

Dear Autumn,

You’re 9 months old, little one! You’ve very nearly been out in this world as long as you were in my tummy. I still miss you being in there sometimes, but it’s so wonderful to now properly know you and watch you develop.

It’s been another wonderful month of exploration for you, and you’ve now learned how to press the buttons on your toys!

Let’s take a look at what else has gone on…

Wandering

Since learning to crawl just before you were 8 months old, you’ve been getting into all sorts of mischief. You will no longer sit still for more than about 0.00002 of a second, as you just want to crawl off somewhere!

Standing

Two days after you learned how to crawl, you learned how to pull yourself up and stand at the side of the sofa. Since then you’ve learned how to shimmy your way along. You can also walk if mummy or daddy hold your hands, but the balance isn’t quite there yet. Still, you look so excited!

Foods

You’ve been trying all sorts of new foods. You’ve had some slightly spicy foods this month. We’ve also been more adventurous with fruits. This month you’ve tried melons and peaches!

Baby led weaning: Peach, rice cake and banana

Hat hatred

This month, there’s been a heatwave. I’ve been trying to take good care of you; applying sun cream, putting a hat on you and using a parasol. The problem is, you hate hats and you aren’t afraid to show your disdain!

Personality

Although you’re only 9 months old, you are definitely your own person! You have definite likes, dislikes, needs and wants and a very cheeky personality!

It’s so lovely when you try to share your food or toys with us. When we accept and pretend to eat your food, you have THE biggest smile!

You also want to do what you want, your way and get annoyed if anyone tries to stop you.

When we went to the playground, Mummy tried to help you to go down the slide. However, you took matters into your own hands and decided to go down head first (!) in your own unique style.

Learning

You’ve been learning about different textures. Mummy put together a treasure basket with all sorts of things in it for you to touch and play with. Your favourites include the fluffy puppy bone that squeaks, the toothbrush, the wooden spoon and the whisk! The whisk is probably the thing you like best!

Mummy has also been making sensory bags and sticking them to the floor for you to play with. Full of shower gel, pom poms and sequins, you had lots of fun pressing it and watching what happened. We’ll have to go to the sensory room again soon, now that you’re older and can have even more fun there!

Sleeping arrangements

As you have learned how to stand now, we’ve finally moved you out of your Chicco Next-to-me crib and into your big girl cot!

I miss waking up to your peaceful little face immediately next to mine, each morning.

However, I’m so proud of you for being such a good girl and adapting to your big girl cot straight away!

Raspberries

I think one of my most favourite things you’ve learned this month is…BLOWING RASPBERRIES!

It’s so funny, and you often don’t stop for ages once you’ve got started! I went to the supermarket a few days ago, and you literally didn’t stop blowing raspberries the whole time we were in there!

I couldn’t even get a photo of you with your ‘9 months card’ without getting a funny little raspberry in there.

We have had a lot of fun this month, little one. You’ve been doing so well at swimming and we’ve enjoyed some lovely visits to the park in the sunshine!

We also had a lovely Father’s Day, Daddy’s first one! It was very hot and we had a barbecue.

I love you so much, my little sweetheart. I can’t imagine life without you, you bring so much joy to our family.

All my love always,

Your Mummy xxx

Ohhh I love this! Her blowing raspberries face is great! Dougie tends to blow raspberries with food or milk in his mouth, just to make meal times eveeeen messier! The sensory bag is really cool, I want to try something like that!
She’s such a gorgeous girl, can’t wait for the next update!

Oh yes, that sounds familiar! I made that one with baby oil and soap as it was all I had, but I’ve since made one with hair gel and it went much better!

Thank you! I was really worried about it, but it was no problem at all! I think I was more bothered than she was.
