Sunday Review: Sudocrem Care & Protect

When I was offered the chance to review Sudocrem Care & Protect cream, I was intrigued. I’ve only used normal Sudocrem before and found it brilliant. It’s been around for over 80 years. In fact, my mum used it on my brother and I when we were babies and swore by it. I’d been using it for spots for years before I used it on Autumn’s nappy rash. Recently, she’s been teething and this seems to have made the nappy rash situation worse! Continue reading “Sunday Review: Sudocrem Care & Protect”

Baby girls' clothes I'm crushing on – March/April 2017

Here are the baby girls’ clothes I love in the shops this month.

I thought after writing Baby girls’ clothes I’m crushing on – February 2017, it’d probably be a little while before I’d be doing one of these posts again. However, so many shops have brought out lovely new clothes over the last month and I couldn’t resist doing another round-up of what I’ve seen!

You can find all these clothes and more baby clothes I love on my Baby Style board on pinterest (please give me a follow while you’re there!)

A letter to my daughter at 6 months old

A letter to my baby girl at 6 months old, expressing my love for her and discussing the milestones and firsts of the past month.

Dear Autumn,

I’m sure each month goes faster than the last. How are we at half a year already, my little cutie? I can’t believe it’s been 6 months since I got to meet you and first held you in my arms.

I hated my daughter's name

For a while after she was born, I hated the name that we gave to our baby girl.

When you’re pregnant you spend hours looking at baby names with your partner, trying to pick the perfect one for your unborn child. My husband and I were no different; hours were spent searching the internet looking for inspiration. So, it pains me to say that for a period of time, I couldn’t stand my daughter’s name, despite the fact that I was the one who had chosen it. Hearing her name made me flinch; I felt like I wanted to change it to something else…

When do you start feeling like a mother?

When do you first start feeling like a mom/mother/mum? This post discusses when I first felt like I was a mum. Was it when I took my positive pregnancy test? Was it when I saw my baby on the sonographer’s screen or was it once she was actually born?

It was late January 2016 that I took my positive pregnancy test, so I’ve been thinking a lot about this time last year. I was thinking about when I started being a mum and when I started feeling like a mum. Without getting into a pro-life vs. pro-choice debate, I’d like to share my story and discuss with you when you first started being a mum. Autumn's 3 most favourite books, March 2017

We’ve been reading with Autumn since she was a 6 week old baby. She loves books and here are her current favourite children’s books!

Inspired by World Book Day tomorrow, (2nd March 2017), I thought I’d write about some of the books Autumn has in her collection or has borrowed from the library. Since Autumn was only a 6 week old baby, I’ve been buying and reading books to her often.

It’s never too early to start reading to babies, as it helps them to learn and it’s another activity you can do to help develop their senses. To begin with, black and white books are best as they can’t see especially clearly and they enjoy looking at the contrast. As they get to a couple of months old, they start to pay more attention to bright colours. As a 5 month old, Autumn now absolutely loves books, especially if they’re brightly coloured! She really looks at them and interacts with them by touching them and trying to hold them. Sometimes she even tries to turn the pages by herself!

Autumn seems to have three favourite books currently:

A letter to my daughter at 5 months old

A letter to my baby girl at 5 months old, expressing my love for her and discussing the milestones and firsts of the past month.

Dear Autumn,

Firstly, you’ve grown so much more hair over the last couple of weeks! Where has it all come from all of a sudden? I love stroking it, it’s so soft. We can definitely see that it’s blonde now, the same colour as your beautiful long eyelashes.

Think before you formula-bash

I haven’t written a poem for about a decade, possibly longer. However, I have some pretty strong views on women insulting people for bottle feeding their babies and I thought I’d try to express it through poetry. Even just a mention of breastfeeding or seeing someone breastfeeding  hurts someone like me. Please don’t get me wrong, I’m not asking people to not mention breastfeeding around me, or to not breastfeed around me or others. I’m fully supportive of breastfeeding, I just think there needs to be some more sensitivity to women who formula feed their babies.

I absolutely loved breastfeeding, I’ve mentioned it in a previous post about My Breastfeeding Journey. I tried my hardest with all the odds against me to keep going as long as I could and felt like I had the experience stolen from me by a cruel turn of events. I felt very down after I had to stop as I felt a massive sense of disappointment and failure.

Our disastrous first post-baby date night

My husband and I’s first date night after our baby was born turned out to be a disaster. Dave didn’t like Fifty Shades Darker and Autumn had separation anxiety.

During my pregnancy we didn’t really go out and have dates to make the most of our time as a couple before Autumn arrived. This was because I just felt bad in one way or another throughout the whole pregnancy! Autumn is now almost 5 months old and we felt as though it might be time we went on our first post-baby date night. Knowing that my mum was going to be off work due to half term, we asked my parents if they would be able to look after her one evening for us.  Continue reading “Our disastrous first post-baby date night”

Sunday Review: Nuby Zoo Chimes

This Sunday I am reviewing the Nuby Zoo Chimes Lion – this baby toy is one of Autumn’s favourites.

I decided this week I’d like to review one of Autumn’s baby toys. So, which better one to choose than one of her most favourites? Her Nuby Zoo Chimes lion, which we’ve named Lionel, always seems to make her smile. He’s a great distraction technique while I’m tiredly stumbling around the room of a morning trying to find a jumper that doesn’t have baby sick on it, do the clips on my bra up correctly and trying not to put my knickers on inside out (I have an 80% success rate).  Continue reading “Sunday Review: Nuby Zoo Chimes”
