Reuben’s Seaside Themed 1st Birthday Cake Smash

I’m not always overly keen some of the celebrations and often gimmicky type things that we import from the US. However, I do really like cake smashes to celebrate a baby’s 1st birthday. There’s just something so cute about setting up a little scene and seeing how they react to the cake. We celebrated Autumn’s 1st birthday with a rose gold themed cake smash and it was the first time she’d ever tried cake. When Reuben’s 1st birthday approached in January, I knew I wanted us to celebrate his 1st birthday with a cake smash too! He had also never tried cake before and I was interested to see how he’d respond.

We’re still very much in the midst of renovating our house, but I want to decorate his nursery with a seaside theme. We recently got the photos back and once again Robert Marriott has helped make the ideas I pictured in my head a reality. The photos will look so gorgeous displayed in there!

Celebrating Reuben’s 1st Birthday

At the beginning of January, it wasn’t just me with a milestone birthday. A few days after I celebrated my 30th, it was Reuben’s 1st birthday. I can’t believe my little rainbow baby is a year old already; it just doesn’t seem possible that I now gave birth to him over a year ago. For Autumn’s 1st birthday, we had a party. I did consider doing the same for Reuben, but then I looked at things from a different standpoint. I could either do just that and spent most of the day running around him in a stressed out flap getting things ready for a party he wouldn’t remember. Or I could spend the day doing his favourite things with him that he also wouldn’t remember, but would really enjoy at the time. We went for the latter!

Autumn’s 1st Birthday Party

We’ve just reached a big milestone, as Autumn has recently turned 1 year old! Many people seem to think that this is the age where they transition from being a “baby” to a “toddler”. However, I don’t feel ready for that change in title. Even though I’ve savoured the last year, knowing how fast it would pass, it’s still gone much too quickly for my liking!

Although she’s a bit young to really understand what’s going on, I think Autumn had a lovely birthday.

A letter to my daughter at 12 months – 1 year old!

Dear Autumn,

I can’t believe it’s been a year since I gave birth to you and first held you in my arms. I was overwhelmed with love and adoration, just as I am today when I look at the beautiful little girl you’ve become. We went through a lot, but you came out fighting and caught up to be just where you should be! I’m so proud of you, but scared of how fast the time has slipped away already, despite the fact I’ve tried desperately to savour it all. I’m going back to work next week and am already terribly sad about the time I’m going to miss spending with you, as well as worried how you’re going to get on.
