Trying coloured contact lenses

I’ve always liked the look of coloured contact lenses. It’s important to get them from a reputable source though, as in the past I’ve heard of people obtaining serious eye problems from using cheaply made ones. Of course, you should know how to put them in and take them out without hurting yourself too. If in doubt, go to see your optician.

The opportunity recently arose to try a couple of colours from Lentiamo. I am short sighted, so I got mine with a prescription in them.

The lilac ones I tried didn’t really make much of a difference to my natural eye colour, unfortunately. My husband didn’t even notice I was wearing them!

I think I read somewhere a few years ago that coloured contact lenses tend to work better for people with dark eyes. Mine are blue, so it may just be that these lenses just didn’t work with my eye colour, unfortunately. They may well look fantastic on someone with darker eyes! With any eye colour, I think coloured lenses are probably a case of trial and error.

I could see a difference with the grey ones. My eyes looked greyer and the lenses made my eyes look bigger. I think this was because the coloured part of the lenses was bigger than my irises.

Regarding my vision, they were good. I was concerned I’d be able to see some of the colour on the lenses, but I couldn’t.

Wearing grey lenses made me feel like I could try makeup looks I hadn’t tried before. I love the colour green, but often feel that it doesn’t really go with my blue eyes. As it was around 30 degrees on the day I first tried these lenses, I was feeling very summery. Sticking with that vibe, I went for lime green and yellow eye shadow with lashings of mascara and a bright pink lip. I really enjoyed applying it and felt festival-ready! I’m sure other colours that haven’t suited me in the past would also look much better with these lenses in.

Disclosure: This is a collaborative post with Lentiamo. I received two boxes of coloured lenses and a bottle of solution for the purpose of this review. As always, all views are honest and my own.

Laura, you look great, thanks for trying them.

It’s a shame that the lilac ones didn’t make a big difference to you.

Thanks Klaudio! I have read in the past that coloured lenses work best on dark eyes, so I didn’t set my expectations too high. It’s a shame they didn’t really make my eyes look any different, but I liked the grey ones.
